Our Story
Family winemaker John Bambury carries forward a dream first imagined by his grandmother, Catherine Bonneau, who envisioned a vineyard on their family farmland in Sonoma. Since 2000, John has led all winemaking operations with a dedication rooted in heritage, craftsmanship, and the land itself.
His debut — the 2002 Bonneau Los Carneros Chardonnay — marked the beginning of what would become a celebrated tradition. Over the years, John has handcrafted more than a dozen acclaimed vintages across an expanding range of varietals and styles, all bearing the unmistakable mark of thoughtful, hands-on winemaking.
A true steward of the land, John draws daily inspiration from the natural beauty that surrounds him. He often recalls a crisp morning when, gazing out from his back porch toward the Mayacamas Mountains, he spotted a Great White Egret gliding into the vineyard. That rare, elegant moment became symbolic — a reminder of nature’s quiet power and a pledge to protect it. It also inspired the Egret wine collection, created not only in reverence to the land, but as a way to give back. A portion of proceeds from Egret wines supports Audubon California’s efforts in habitat restoration and wildlife protection.
Today, John remains at the helm of his boutique family winery — equally at home among the vines or in the cellar. He continues to craft wines that reflect generations of experience, a deep respect for nature, and a relentless pursuit of quality.
At the heart of the Bambury Wine Collection are three distinct lines:
Bonneau Wines – The flagship label, rooted in the family’s pioneering legacy and known for award-winning expressions like the Estate Chardonnay.
Egret Wines – A reflection of John’s environmental values, created to support conservation efforts and celebrate the natural world.
Opal Moon Wines – An ultra-limited collection named for October’s birthstone and the fall harvest moon, when some of the most exceptional grapes are gathered under moonlit skies.
For John and his family, winemaking is not just about awards or accolades — it’s about crafting a collection that resonates with those who truly appreciate its artistry. Like any great work of art, these wines are made to be shared, savored, and celebrated.
